It has very occasionally been known for the sun to disappear at the Ring and a drop or two of rain to appear. Or fog. Or snow. Or hail. Or all four at the same time.

One rainy day in May, I managed to grab a ride in the Ringtaxi with Sabine and asked her to talk us through the wet line. If you can't remember anything else, just stay off the dry line, as that's where all the rubber is deposited, and it's mostly that which gets slippery in the wet.

Hocheichen: Go all the way around the outside of the bend. The are two different strips of tarmac in this bend, and the outer one has more grip. The classic wet crash here is to take the normal line, lose the back on the slippy inner band of tarmac, have the back grip again when it reaches the outer tarmac, pendulum round into the left-hander and then either hit the armco on the outside, or the inside, or outside then inside. The latter approach seems quite popular.

Aremburg: All the way around the outside

Adenaur-Forst: This has new tarmac from midway into the first right-hander. The wet line is thus to take advantage of this. After the left-hand exit from Fuchsrohre, stay to the left as usual for the first right-hander, but instead of taking the normal turn-in, continue in a straight line until you are on the new tarmac and then turn-in hard. Despite the much tighter turn-in, the grip on the new tarmac is so much better, it's a safer line.

Bergwerk: All the way around the outside

Mutkurve: Later and slower turn-in to give more margin for error in case of a slide

Brunnchen 1: Towards the outside to avoid the bump and for better grip

Brunnchen 2: Towards the outside to give a gentler angle onto the slippy tarmac on the outside

Pflanzgarten 1: All the way around the outside on entry, then coming in somewhat to avoid the crud at the edge of the track

Pflantzgarten 2: Stay to the right before the jump to avoid the usual struggle to get back to the left, then work your way back to the left on the way down the hill
