Although many locals speak English, and many websites have English sections, there will be times when you'll need to translate between German and English.

If your German is as incompetent as mine (about 700 words, mostly concerning car-parts and alcohol ...), you may need some help.

There are two main free translation sites, both of which can translate either a block of text or an entire webpage:

Babelfish
This was the original one, and was a lot better than nothing, but translations are often entertaining and it has a low limit on blocks of text.

Google
Better translations, and I haven't yet hit a size limit on blocks of text.

Neither copes well with framed sites, so you'll often have to copy and paste in the text.
